Small claims
If you are making or defending a claim of less than $10 000, the Small Claims Division of the Local Court of NSW provides a cost effective and relatively quick forum for resolving disputes. At Owens Lawyers, in most cases our fees for cases in the Small Claims Division do not exceed the amount of professional costs fixed by legislation. So generally whatever you have to pay for legal fees is recoverable from the other side if you win your case.
NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Money claims against business and service providers can be brought in the NSW Civil and Adminsitrative Tribunal (NCAT). NCAT provides a cheap and less formal forum for these types of disputes. Owens Lawyers can help you make or defend an application.
Other money claims
Money claims that cannot be brought in the Small Claims Division or NCAT are usually made in the Local Court of NSW (for amounts up to $100 000) or the District Court of NSW.
